In the third Disney Fairies installment, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, Tinker Bell’s curiosity gets the better of her and she is captured by a human girl who loves fairies. Vidia, who semi-accidentally caused Tinker Bell to be captured, races back to the fairy camp to let them know. The fairies rally and launch a rescue effort.

As I mentioned in the review for the second film in the series, each of the films make significant improvements in storyline and animation, and this film represents a great improvement.

Tinker Bell was at her best in this film, and we got to see interactions with humans a la Peter Pan. I think the director did very well with showing how Tinker Bell had to figure out how to communicate when all Elizabeth (the human girl) could hear was a tiny bell tinkling sound. It was also fun to watch Tinker Bell lose her temper later in the film.

One of my favorite parts of the film was how Vidia finally became a true part of the group of fairies surrounding Tinker Bell. I think the writers gave her a very natural transition as her attitude and personality changed to allow her to open up to the other fairies and become true friends with them. All of the fairies have grown a bit throughout these films, but I think Vidia is the one showing the most change.

The animation quality again took a big leap, with more texture and design details in everything. The fairy dresses had more subtle gradations in them, making them look even more like natural flowers and leaves. The environment, especially the rain, also became more detailed. The animators really hit their strides in this release.

The music fit the film very well, and really helped set the mood in every scene. It brought in a sense of wonder excitement, mystery, and fantasy whenever it was needed. Joel McNeely really did a good job with it.

I think my favorite part of all of these Tinker Bell films is how they each contains a message, but they present it in a natural way which doesn’t scream, “Here’s the message of the film!” Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue is a strong addition to the series, and is my second favorite of the films (my favorite being Secret of the Wings), but it’s a very close second. I highly recommend this film.
