The Adventures of Tom Stranger – Interdimensional Insurance Agent, an audiobook written by Larry Correia, is narrated by Adam Baldwin, of Firefly fame, so how could I resist? One of my favorite authors and one of my favorite actors, all in one great package.
I’ve enjoyed Correia’s writing for years now, though I have never listened to an audiobook until now. What a great introduction to the format! Tom Stranger is an interdimensional insurance agent known for his excellent customer service. Stuck with a clueless intern, he has to save the insured dimension (this dimension) from being overrun by balrogs and demons from another dimension, all while giving the best service possible.
The narration by Baldwin was excellent. He really got into the roles and brought The Adventures of Tom Stranger to life. I can only imagine that he found the references to Firefly and himself quite fun and humorous. It’s not often one gets to narrate a story that includes you as a character.
The story itself is fun, though not very deep. Of course, I think that was the point. Correia pokes fun at politics, useless university degrees, call center jobs, and more. I found myself laughing out loud regularly as I listened to the story unfold. The story itself reminded me a little of Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy because of the type of humor.
If you enjoy Correia’s works, you will enjoy The Adventures of Tom Stranger – Interdimensional Insurance Agent. Enjoy Adam Baldwin’s acting? You will enjoy this audiobook. If you like manatees, you will enjoy this book. I highly recommend it!
