Batman’s Guide to Being Cool by Howie Dewin – book review

"Batman's Guide to Being Cool" by Howie Dewin.
“Batman’s Guide to Being Cool” by Howie Dewin.
I’m not sure how I ran across Batman’s Guide to Being Cool by Howie Dewin. Perhaps it popped up as related to the awesome film, The LEGO Batman Movie (which is more awesome than any other Batman movie ever, and also even more fun than the original LEGO Movie). However it happened, I’m glad I picked it up.

Everyone knows that Batman is “the coolest Super Hero in the universe” (it says so right on the cover). Because Batman is so awesome, he decided to help everyone else become awesome, too. This book covers friends, enemies, being mega-cool in multiple situations, and fighting crime (all of which are awesome!).

Howie Dewin so far? Keeping up? Needless to say, Batman’s Guide to Being Cool is awesome reading for (or to) kids, especially if they’ve seen the film. Full of stills, it’s a great companion that addresses issues of fitting in in a very light-hearted manner. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times while reading it.

There are multiple levels to the humor, too (just like in the film), so there are plenty of subtle (and not-so-subtle) jokes for the more mature among us, too. But who are we kidding? We’re all kids at heart.

If you loved the film, you will love this book. It’s a great extension of the humor found throughout the film, and just plain fun to read. Batman’s Guide to Being Cool is one of my favorite books this year. I highly recommend it.
